Ecological market gardening without plowing is based on three fundamental principles of no-till gardening:
Disturb the soil as little as possible through a good mastery of soil preparation techniques: back to the basics of photosynthesis, all the foundations to start preparing the soil for no-till (site selection, transition to no-till, direct sowing, soil work by animals, design of permanent beds).
Cover the soil as much as possible by making reasoned use of compost, ground covers and different types of mulch, and through appropriate management of bed turning, aisle and pathway management.
Maintain plantings as much as possible: fertility management, use of cover crops for fertility, preparing the bed without plowing, transplanting and intermediate crops, the example of 7 no-till crops from start to finish (carrot, arugula, garlic, lettuce, sweet potato, beet, cherry tomato).
Prefaced by Jean-Martin Fortier, a best-selling author of The Market Gardener, this book, written in clear and accessible language, will captivate all professionals as well as knowledgeable amateur gardeners who will also benefit and be able to experiment with these methods in their own fields and gardens.
