Does it still need an introduction? Originally designed for peasants, it has become a true French heritage! A scout's knife, a winegrower's knife, a market gardener's knife... The N°08 was born in Joseph Opinel's workshop in the 1890s. Since then, it has become a classic worldwide, thanks to its design, its formidable blade, and its simplicity!

Its 8.5 cm stainless steel blade offers excellent sharpness and exceptional strength. The beechwood handle makes it easy to grip, making the knife safer to use. The Virobloc safety system, invented by Opinel, allows the blade to be locked in the open or closed position.

Due to its size, this knife is very versatile and essential for small DIY projects, hunting, agricultural work, and creative hobbies like wood carving...

MARTENSITIC STAINLESS STEEL

The stainless steel used in Opinel blades is an optimized grade that ensures both high resistance to corrosion and excellent mechanical performance.

The blade offers excellent sharpness and high abrasion resistance, allowing it to withstand regular contact with hard materials like ceramics before needing sharpening. Stainless steel requires no special maintenance under normal conditions of use, unlike carbon steel. However, it may have limitations when exposed to aggressive environments (acids, saltwater, cleaning agents, etc.) for extended periods.

HANDLE

Beechwood is the most commonly used wood for Opinel handles. Sourced from French forests, it is hard, durable, and easy to work with. Its uniform appearance ranges from yellow to pinkish with many dark streaks. The handle is varnished for better protection against moisture and dirt.

SAFETY RING

Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is featured on all folding knives starting from N°06. Made of stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety during use), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety during transport).
