Did you know?
The great tit, which can occupy this nest box, loves processionary caterpillars and many other insects. A brood can consume up to 500 insects per day!
Also available in 28 mm (JO1110) and semi-open (JO1109).
Maintenance tips: Every year, clean the nest box to prevent disease risks and parasite invasions. Empty it of all materials, brush the interior with a wire brush. If necessary, use a blowtorch to destroy parasites. Repair the nest box or seal it if necessary and check the strength of the attachment. Carry out these works after the breeding season. The ideal time is September-October, as there is then little risk of disturbing bats, a dormouse, a squirrel, wasps, or other hymenoptera that sometimes make their home in the nest boxes.
Instructions for use: You can install it at the beginning of winter, some birds will take shelter in it. The nest box should be installed in a quiet place out of reach of curious onlookers and predators, at a height of 1.50 to 3 meters, slightly tilted downwards to prevent water entry in rainy weather, and the entrance hole facing south or southeast.
Precautions for use: Do not intrude on your hosts' privacy by opening the nest box during the nesting period, they may well abandon their offspring. With binoculars, on the lookout, you can follow the comings and goings of the parents and the first outings of the young from a distance.
Why install bird nest boxes?
The scarcity of natural nesting sites (hollow trees, holes in buildings or under roofs, etc.) is a major obstacle to the reproduction of nesting birds in our gardens. Thus, tits, nuthatches, treecreepers, and redstarts find it difficult to find a place to build their nests.
To address this issue and contribute to the protection of these birds, you can install bird nest boxes in your gardens or on your buildings! They are a valuable help for these species.
The models of bird nest boxes that we offer, designed or selected by the LPO, provide you with the necessary guarantees for successful nesting.
